Verduno Pelaverga Speziale 2025 MG
The Verduno Pelaverga "Speziale" by Fratelli Alessandria is far more than a simple red wine: it is a genuine statement of territorial identity. The historic estate has been crafting this rarity since its debut vintage in 1973. To celebrate their profound bond with this unique grape and highlight its extraordinary character, starting with the 2011 vintage—fifteen years after the DOC designation was established—the family decided to "call it by its name," officially introducing the moniker Speziale. The name serves as a direct tribute to the most fascinating and enigmatic trait of the native Pelaverga Piccolo grape: an unmistakable, intense, and alluring spice profile dominated by black and white pepper notes.
The grapes are sourced from a mosaic of 20-year-old vines spread across roughly 3 hectares. The rows are distributed among some of Verduno's finest crus—Riva Rocca, Campasso, Boscatto, Neirane, Sotto Orti, and Galleria—ranging from 250 to 400 meters in altitude on diverse exposures (Southeast to West), anchored in limestone and loamy soils. The manual harvest takes place during the second half of September. In the cellar, fermentation and maceration are carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (25-26 °C) for 6 to 8 days. To preserve the vibrant fruit clarity and signature peppered spine, the wine matures for 5 to 6 months in stainless steel or concrete, followed by at least 1 to 2 months of bottle aging before release.
