Verduno Pelaverga Pelà 2025
The Verduno Pelaverga "Pelà" by Cascina Penna-Currado stands as a masterful, ethereal, and deeply characterful expression of one of Langa’s most captivating and niche designations. This red wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Pelaverga Piccolo grapes, harvested from a 15-year-old vineyard perched on the hilltop ridge sloping down from La Morra toward Verduno—a premium location nestled inside the strictly limited official DOC production boundaries.
The winemaking philosophy highlights a tailored, low-intervention approach designed to protect the variety's vibrant fragrance and signature spice. Following harvest, the grapes are chilled to delay spontaneous fermentation, which begins slowly after roughly 7 days. The destemming process is highly delicate, leaving the berries 100% intact and completely free of stems. Fermentation runs without further temperature interventions (never exceeding 28 °C) for about 15 days, shaped by single daily punch-downs or brief pump-overs. The wine is racked immediately at dryness without post-fermentation maceration, allowing malolactic fermentation to finish spontaneously by the following spring.
