Langhe Bricco del Drago 2021
Bricco del Drago is more than just a wine; it is a piece of history. Created in 1969 by Dr. Luciano Degiacomi, it is considered the first true "Super Vino da Tavola" (Super Table Wine) in Piedmont, and perhaps in all of Italy. The vision was brilliant: to soften the intensity of Dolcetto—the star variety of Cascine Drago—by adding a percentage of Nebbiolo to impart finesse, structure, and an unusual longevity for this style of wine.
Precision begins in the vineyard and continues in the cellar: the hand-harvested grapes undergo separate vinification processes due to their differing maturation times. The Dolcetto is macerated for 5-8 days at 25°C, while the Nebbiolo requires 10-12 days at 30°C. The two wines are blended only later, followed by aging for at least one year in oak barrels. This wine is so distinct that it was granted an official production zone designation by Presidential Decree in 1987—a virtually unique case for a "table wine."
