Dolcetto d'Alba Pian Balbo
The Dolcetto d'Alba DOC "Pian Balbo" by Poderi Colla (sourced from the historic Cascine Drago estate in Alba) delivers a textbook, friendly, and deeply traditional portrait of Piedmont's everyday red. The vineyard's name references its location atop a hill ridge (dosso or pian balbo)—a dry, breezy summit setting that echoes the grape's ancient dialect name "Dossetto" (the grape of the ridge).
Sourced from vines planted between 1970 and 2000, "Pian Balbo" focuses entirely on varietal purity. Cellar practices feature hand-harvesting, a gentle 5-to-7-day skin maceration, and complete malolactic conversion prior to winter. Matured strictly in stainless steel tanks and bottled the following spring/summer, this red safeguards vibrant fruit character, crisp acidity, fine tannins, and classic almond undertones.
