Barolo Sarmassa Vigna Merenda 2022

The Barolo DOCG "Sarmassa Vigna Merenda" by Scarzello stands as the ultimate flagship of this historic, family-run estate in Barolo. Sourced exclusively from a single two-hectare plot known as Vigna Merenda, located in the core of the legendary Sarmassa cru, this vineyard sits at 250–300 meters above sea level with prime South to South-West exposure. The stony, calcareous-clay soil naturally limits vine vigor, pushing the grapes toward perfect phenolic ripeness. First bottled in 1978, this micro-cuvée is produced in an exclusive quantity of just around 5,500 bottles annually.

Cellar protocols represent the pinnacle of classical traditionalism: the skin contact maceration is exceptionally long, lasting between 30 and 50 days depending on the vintage conditions. The wine then ages for 30 months in large 25-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks, followed by 2 to 3 full years of bottle maturation prior to release. The resulting Barolo is a monumental, austere masterpiece built for legendary cellaring longevity.
