Barolo Perno 2021
The Barolo "Perno" by Elio Sandri (Cascina Disa) stands out as a pure masterclass in low-intervention, traditional winemaking, serving as the authentic structural spine of the estate. Operating within the historic Cascina Disa property, Elio Sandri coaxes an incredibly vivid, honest, and elegant Nebbiolo from the celebrated Perno sub-zone in Monforte d'Alba. The vines thrive on limestone-clay marls mixed with distinct veins of fine sand—a geological matrix that yields exceptional mineral drive, allowing the wine to seamlessly bridge Monforte’s legendary power with ethereal aromatic precision.
The cellar management follows a strict, time-honored traditionalist protocol with zero cosmetic shortcuts. Fermentation triggers spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by an extensive skin-contact maceration running for several weeks to naturally weave noble, age-worthy tannins into the wine's fabric. The Barolo Perno then matures for roughly 36 months in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks (botti grandi), followed by an extended rest in glass. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, it shuns modern industrial makeup to offer a deep, vertical, and majestic Nebbiolo designed for true Langhe purists.
