Barolo Castelletto 2021
The Barolo DOCG "Castelletto" by Manzone Giovanni stands as a landmark traditional Barolo, boasting a rich heritage with its inaugural vintage dating back to 1961. Sourced from a dedicated single-vineyard plot replanted in 1999 within the renowned Castelletto MGA in Monforte d'Alba, the vines thrive on steep, hand-worked slopes with East-South-East exposure. The limestone-clay soil infuses the wine with deep muscular structure, refined tannins, and exceptional aging capability.
Hand-harvested in mid-to-late October to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness, the grapes undergo traditional, low-intervention vinification. Cellar management features spontaneous wild-yeast fermentations and extended 30-to-40-day macerations, utilizing gentle cap irrigation to softly extract polyphenols. The wine matures for approximately 3 years in large oak casks, followed by a brief resting period in concrete vats, before being bottled under a waning moon. Released roughly 5 years post-harvest in a micro-production of a few thousand bottles, Barolo Castelletto delivers an authoritative, complex, and age-worthy Barolo experience.
