Barbaresco Gallina 2023
The Barbaresco DOCG "Gallina" by Poderi e Cantine Oddero (a historic and venerable wine family from La Morra whose viticultural roots date back to the 18th century) is an expression of pure class, grace and elegance from one of Neive's most prestigious and renowned crus. The 2 hectares of estate vineyard, located at about 200 meters a.b.l.m. with perfect southern exposure, rest on marl soils characterized by a high percentage of very fine sands. The vineyard combines the wisdom of historic vines over 50 years old with the vitality of a more recent 13-year-old planting, capable of yielding a low yield (60 q/ha) and a limited production of just 6.000 bottles per year.
The winery's philosophy respects a classic and essential rigor: manual harvesting in the first week of October is followed by a double and meticulous selection of the bunches (in the vineyard and on the sorting table). After a very delicate destemming and pressing, the must undergoes alcoholic fermentation with skin maceration for about 25 days at a controlled temperature (28°C), then completing malolactic fermentation in December. Aging lasts for about 24 months in large 40-hectoliter oak barrels, followed by bottling at the end of summer and a final rest of at least 6 months in the bottle. Barbaresco Gallina di Oddero reveals itself as a red of extraordinary aromatic finesse and tactile precision, where the typical notes of violet and spices blend with an enveloping and vertical tannic structure.
