Barolo Villero 2020
Located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, the Villero vineyard sits just a few meters from the Rocche di Castiglione, yet it possesses remarkably different pedological characteristics. Facing due south at an altitude of approximately 280 meters, it rests on a tough, compact terrain rich in calcareous clays and silicates. These elements retain water more effectively, in contrast to the looser, leaner soils found in the Rocche.
These geological differences are clearly reflected in the wines: while Barolo Villero is distinguished by its roundness, juiciness, and warm notes of dark fruit, the Rocche is more vertical, mineral, and slender. Historically, the Villero vineyard—along with the neighboring Fiasco—belonged to the agronomist and university professor Ferdinando Vignolo Lutati. A prominent figure in the agricultural landscape of the Langhe, he authored seminal soil studies, including Sulla delimitazione delle zone a vini tipici (1929).
