Sorpasso

Carema 2021

SKU: P2358S

The Carema DOC by Sorpasso (crafted by Martina Bernardo and Alessandro Moresco in Carema) stands as a pure, heroic, and deeply expressive icon of Alpine viticulture, revered by fine-wine purists for its uncompromising artisanal rigor and electric mineral core. Debuting with the 2016 vintage, this wine originates from the estate's finest, sun-drenched terraced amphitheaters in Carema, supported by iconic dry-stone walls and granite columns ('pilun'). The vineyard architecture combines traditional overhead pergolas ('topia') and Guyot trellising. The blend is composed of 95% 'Picotendro' (the indigenous Carema clone of Nebbiolo) balanced by the ripest clusters of rare local heritage varieties Ner d'Ala and Neretti (5%).

Cellar practice respects time-honored Alpine traditions: hand-harvested grapes are naturally warmed under the direct sun to kickstart rapid, spontaneous fermentations powered by native yeasts in stainless steel and open wood vats. Every single vineyard parcel is vinified individually, undergoing an extended skin maceration averaging 40 days. Aging is conducted separately per parcel in neutral, used oak casks (500L tonneaux and 225L barriques) before blending and bottling without filtration. Sorpasso's Carema emerges as a red of soaring weightless grace—marrying crystalline red-berry aromatics and wild Alpine herbs with chiseled, silky tannins and multi-decadal longevity.
