This place is not merely a winery, but the very cradle of French enology: it was within these walls that Joseph Girard, an illustrious visionary and winemaker, conceived France's first AOC, Arbois, back in 1936. After decades of neglect that had reduced the structure to ruins, the Château is now experiencing a second youth thanks to a colossal restoration and a production philosophy that places respect for living things above all else. Within the estate's nine hectares, viticulture follows the rhythms of biodynamics and lunar cycles, treating the soil as an interconnected organism where biodiversity is not just protected, but encouraged to flourish.
The approach in the cellar reflects this total dedication to sincerity: the goal is not to rewrite the history of the land, but to reveal it with extreme precision and attentiveness. It was precisely this authentic vibration that enchanted us during our visit to the Paris Wine Expo, where among hundreds of tastings, the labels of Château de Verreux stood out for their profound soul and extraordinary balance. For this reason, we have proudly chosen to bring to our shop two gems from the 2023 vintage that perfectly embody the free and instinctive spirit of the Jura.
The 2023 Savagnin is a revelation of purity. Cultivated without any chemical aids and tended with an almost moving artisanal dedication, this white wine expresses a mineral tension and aromatic complexity that only the great terroirs of Arbois can provide. Alongside it, we have selected the 2023 Poulsard, a wine that is the emblem of delicacy and vitality.
