Rosso Di Montalcino 2019
The Rosso di Montalcino DOC from Pian dell'Orino (Caroline Pobl e Jan Hendrik Erbach) is one of the most noble, complex and exciting interpretations of the entire appellation, a wine that far exceeds the traditional definition of a "second wine" to stand as a true collectible grand cru. Made from 100% organically and biodynamically certified (Demeter) grown Sangiovese grapes in the estate's vineyards on the south-eastern slopes of Montalcino (among the parcels of Pian dell'Orino, Cancelli Rossi and Scarnacuoia, this Rosso benefits from the same exhaustive scientific and ecosystem-based care reserved for the estate's Brunellos.
In the cellar, Jan Hendrik Erbach employs an artisanal winemaking process of absolute purity: spontaneous fermentation driven solely by indigenous yeasts and skin maceration in wooden truncated-cone vats and neutral tanks. Aging involves an extraordinary maturation of approximately 18-20 months in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, followed by an appropriate period of rest in the bottle without any fining or filtration. The Rosso di Montalcino from Pian dell'Orino reveals itself as a wine of vibrant elegance, deep, fresh and with an extremely fine tannic texture, capable of evolving and refining magnificently for over a decade.
