Langhe Pinot Nero La Tartufaia 2023
f Giulia Negri is affectionately known as the "Barolo Girl", a significant share of that credit comes from her courageous, pioneering bet on international grape varieties in Serradenari (La Morra). "La Tartufaia" Pinot Nero is born here, from a unique plot surrounded by ancient woods and natural truffle grounds, sitting at a record-breaking altitude near 500 meters above sea level. Giulia recognized that the cool exposure, sharp diurnal temperature shifts, and limestone-marl and sandy clay soils offered the ultimate habitat for Pinot Nero, mirroring the conditions of France's top terroirs.
In the cellar, the approach is distinctly Burgundian—minimalist and deeply respectful of the raw material. Fermentation triggers naturally using indigenous yeasts in wooden vats under temperature control. Consistent with her philosophy, the aging process shuns the heavy impact of new small oak, opting instead for 12 to 14 months in used barriques and tonneaux, followed by additional bottle rest. The result is a high-altitude Pinot Nero of moving finesse, seamlessly blending French elegance with the proud character of Piedmontese soil.
