Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2020
The Barolo DOCG Riserva "Monfortino" from the Giacomo Conterno winery (Monforte d'Alba) is universally considered the highest and most revered peak of Italian enology, a living myth of worldwide renown and the absolute benchmark for pure Nebbiolo. Produced exclusively in exceptional vintages from the finest grapes of the world-famous Francia vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba (acquired directly in 1974, before which the grapes were selected by trusted local growers), Monfortino embodies the ultimate synthesis of Serralunga's austere power and a timeless, ethereal aristocratic elegance.
In the cellar, the winemaking led by Roberto Conterno follows strict, traditional rules that allow no compromise: fermentation and very long maceration in large oak vats without temperature control or selected yeasts, with the cap submerged for up to 4–5 weeks. Aging involves a solemn rest of approximately 6–7 years in large traditional Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a long period of refinement in the bottle before release. Monfortino is a liquid sculpture of monumental structure, imposing tannic texture, and virtually unlimited aging potential, capable of evolving for over half a century.
