Giacomo Conterno

Barolo France 2022

SKU: P4083S

The Barolo DOCG "Francia" from the legendary Giacomo Conterno winery (Monforte d'Alba) is one of the absolute milestones in the history of world oenology. Produced from the prestigious single-owner vineyard Francia in Serralunga d'Alba — a 14-hectare amphitheater purchased directly by Giovanni Conterno in 1974 and located at the extreme southern limit of the appellation —, this wine represents the perfect archetype of Serralunga Barolo: imposing, austere, deep, and endowed with an extraordinary mineral verve. It is from this very cru that, in exceptional vintages, the selection destined for the legendary Barolo Riserva Monfortino is born.

In the cellar, Roberto Conterno applies the same uncompromising family philosophy: spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and long cap-pressed maceration in large oak vats, carried out without temperature control or technological acceleration. This is followed by a solemn aging of about 48 months (4 years) in large traditional Slavonian oak barrels, completed by a long rest in the bottle. Barolo Francia reveals itself as a monument of rare aristocratic nobility, where the extremely dense tannic structure blends with balsamic and ferrous notes, offering an evolutionary longevity that easily exceeds three decades.
