Barolo Chinato 2005
Barolo Chinato by Conterno Fantino is more than just a fortified wine; it is a celebration of the most noble Piedmontese traditions. This elixir begins with a base of Barolo DOCG from a single vineyard in Monforte d’Alba, where white, calcareous soils impart exceptional structure to the Nebbiolo. After traditional winemaking and aging in French oak, the wine is infused with a secret blend of over 50 different herbs, flowers, and spices, led by the precious Cinchona Calisaya (Quinine) bark.
The result is a meditation wine of hypnotic charm. It displays a brick-red hue with garnet reflections; the nose offers an explosion of citrus, mountain herbs, and noble spices that blend harmoniously with the Barolo's classic tertiary notes. On the palate, the experience is magical: an initial sweet and enveloping sensation is masterfully balanced by the characteristic bitter finish of the quinine, creating a long and deeply aromatic tail. Produced in only 2,500 bottles, it represents the quintessence of Langhe hospitality.
